Wednesday, October 10, 2012: Come hear Alicia Boutan, Vice President Strategy, Planning and Business Development at Chevron Technology Ventures, talk about Chevron’s activities in the renewable energy space. Chevron is the largest producer of geothermal energy in the world, supplying 1,273 megawatts of installed electricity-generating capacity in Indonesia and the Philippines. In 2008, it commenced operations at Casper Wind in Wyoming. Chevron Technology Ventures developed and operates 3 solar projects in California and New Mexico. Snacks and drinks will be provided, and this will be a great opportunity to meet colleagues in the energy industry.

About Alicia:
Alicia M. Boutan is vice president of Strategy, Planning and Business Development for Chevron Technology Ventures. In this position, she is responsible for advancing the unit’s business interests in emerging technologies that have the potential to change or transform how energy is produced or consumed, including business activities in hydrogen, renewables, and nanomaterials, as well as Chevron’s venture capital investing. She is also responsible for the development of the strategic and business planning process, including consolidated portfolio investment and operating budgets. A native of Miami, Boutan graduated from Florida International University in 1981 with bachelor’s degrees in business administration and political science. She joined Texaco the following year at the company’s Exploration and Producing offices in Coral Gables, Fla. In 1986, she transferred to Houston, where she held various assignments in the Exploration and Production Technology Department. She later joined the company’s Global Information Services group, where she held positions of increasing responsibility, including manager of Infrastructure Operations with responsibility for Texaco’s global computer data center in Bellaire, Texas. She later served as assistant to management in the office of Texaco Inc.’s vice president and chief technology officer.

About the moderator:
Kate McGinnis leads business development for battery energy storage at Chevron Technology Ventures. In this capacity, she evaluates new technology applications and manages demonstration project development. In her previous role as a Carbon Management Advisor, Kate was responsible for identifying and developing emission reduction projects. She successfully coordinated the issuance and commercialization of Chevron’s first ever carbon credits from a geothermal project in Indonesia. Prior to Chevron, Kate worked in environmental advocacy roles and as a consultant to the US DOE. She has a BS in Environmental Science from George Washington University and an MBA from Cornell.
